Are Google Ads worth it for tradies?

For most trade businesses, yes, when they're managed properly. Google Ads, which plenty of tradies still call AdWords, put you at the top of the search the moment someone needs your trade, so leads can land the same week you start. The catch: they only work when someone's actively managing them. Set-and-forget ad accounts burn money.

We bid on what people actually search

We don't guess at keywords. We pull the real search data, find the terms that bring paying jobs instead of tyre-kickers, and put your ad in front of them. CPC is what a single click on that search actually costs on Google, which is exactly what your budget buys.

Hear from trade businesses we've worked with

What you get when we run your ads.

  • Your leads land this month

Ads sit at the top of Google from the day they go live. The phone starts ringing months before SEO would get you there.

  • Your account gets worked daily

We're in the account every day and you see a report every month. No set-and-forget, no learning-phase excuses past the first few weeks.

  • Your budget goes where the jobs are

We bid on the searches that turn into jobs you actually want, in the areas you service, and skip the ones that go nowhere.

Here's where a managed ad puts you

Someone in your area searches for your trade. Your ad sits at the very top of the page, above the map and above every other listing, so you're the first business they see. That spot is what the budget buys.

Google Ads questions?

See if we answered it below.

How fast will I see leads?

Often within the first 2 weeks the ads are live.

How much should I spend on ads?

It comes down to how many leads you want and how much work you can take on. We work out the right budget with you based on your goals and what the jobs are worth in your area, and you sign off on it before a cent is spent.

What if the ads aren't working?

We manage your ads daily and watch the numbers closely, so we usually know if something's off before you do. Most of the time, though, the ads are doing their job. We can see the clicks coming in, the phone ringing and enquiries landing through your form. Here's the honest part: ads can only get the lead to your door. If those leads aren't turning into jobs because calls aren't getting answered or quote requests are sitting there, that's not the ads failing, that's the follow-up. We'll always tell you straight which one it is.

Is AdWords the same as Google Ads?

Yes, same product. Google renamed AdWords to Google Ads on 24 July 2018, and the change was branding only: Google confirmed campaign performance and reporting weren't affected. If you've been searching for AdWords management for your trade business, Google Ads management is the current name for exactly that.

Why did Google rename AdWords?

The name outgrew the product. When Google announced the change in June 2018, it pointed to ads now running across Search, YouTube, Google Maps and partner websites and apps, no longer just search keywords, so AdWords became Google Ads. For tradies the search side still brings the leads, and that's the side we manage.

Do tradies need a Google Ads agency, or can you run it yourself?

You can run it yourself, and plenty of tradies do. The catch is that Google Ads rewards constant attention: bids, search terms, negative keywords and landing pages all need tending, and a few wrong settings can burn a week of budget on clicks that never call. A good agency earns its fee when it saves you more in wasted spend and won jobs than it costs, and frees you to stay on the tools. If your spend is small or you enjoy the tinkering, doing it yourself is fair enough.

How much does a Google Ads click cost for tradies?

It is a range you bid into, not a fixed price, and it swings by trade and city. We pulled Google's own top-of-page bid figures for 44 trade keywords: an "emergency plumber" click runs about A$13 to A$69, while a "handyman near me" click starts near A$2. See the full breakdown by trade in our Google Ads CPC benchmarks.

Are Google Local Service Ads available in Australia?

No. Google Local Service Ads and the Google Guaranteed badge are not offered in Australia, so if an agency pitches them here, they are selling something that does not exist yet. Regular Google Ads, local SEO and your Google Business Profile are what actually work. We explain it in full on our advertising for tradies guide.

Do I own my Google Ads account?

Yes, always. We set the account up in your name, and the account, the data and the campaign history stay yours. Some agencies keep it in their own account so you can't take it when you leave. We don't. If we ever part ways, everything goes with you.

Am I locked into a contract?

No lock-in. We run your ads month to month and back the work to bring you leads. You stay because the phone's ringing, not because a contract has you trapped.
