Is hipages worth it? An honest review
What hipages costs, how the contract works, what 10,700+ reviewers say, and when it's the right call. Every number here comes from hipages' own pages or a named review platform, July 2026.
The short version
- Best for
- Filling a quiet calendar fast, especially early on. Profile up in days, quoting activity the same week, nothing to build first.
- What it costs
- Four plans from $139 to $649 a month plus GST, each loading a set of monthly credits you spend to accept leads. What a single lead costs in credits rises and falls with demand.
- Watch for
- Each lead can be shared with up to three tradies, the intro contract runs six months then auto-renews for twelve, and your profile and reviews stay on the platform.
- Reviewers say
- 3.7 out of 5 across 9,372 reviews on ProductReview.com.au, and 3.6 on Trustpilot (July 2026). Homeowners praise the speed; tradie complaints cluster on lead quality and contract exits.
The detail, and where each figure comes from, is below.
How much does hipages cost in 2026?
Membership runs $139 to $649 a month plus GST across four plans (hipages pricing page, retrieved 20 July 2026). Each plan loads a monthly allowance of credits, and accepting a lead spends them. There's no commission on the job value. Across the whole member base, the average Australian member spent $2,381 in FY25 (hipages FY25 results, ASX release August 2025).
| Plan | Per month (ex GST) | Credits per month | Postcodes covered | Credit rollover |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Starter | $139 | 155 | 1 | 1 month |
| Advanced | $249 | 310 | 3 | 1 month |
| Premium | $449 | 595 | 5 | 2 months |
| Platinum | $649 | 810 | 10 | 2 months |
All four plans start on the 6-month introductory term, then auto-renew on a 12-month one, and add bonus loyalty credits after 6 months. You can pause once for 14 to 31 days on the intro term, or up to 62 days combined on the 12-month term. Paying yearly takes 5% off. Source: hipages membership pricing, retrieved 20 July 2026.
Three more prices sit around those plans, and most reviews never mention them:
| Also on the rate card | Per month (ex GST) | What it is |
|---|---|---|
| Essentials | $29 | The job and business management software on its own. No marketplace access, no leads. |
| Pro (10+ employees) | $2,049 | The big-crew tier, sold with customised solutions and dedicated account management. |
| Review Management Plus | $49 | Optional add-on that tracks reviews beyond hipages and Google, adding Facebook and Trustpilot. |
How the credits behave is the part worth understanding before you compare plans:
- What a single lead costs in credits moves with trade, location, job size, urgency and demand, and hipages says the amount can change daily, weekly or monthly, right up until a job is marked hired (credits policy, 20 July 2026).
- Every lead is capped at 3 businesses, in hipages' own words, so up to three tradies pay to quote the same job (hipages pricing page, "How does it work?", retrieved 20 July 2026).
- Unused credits roll over 1 month on Starter and Advanced, 2 months on Premium and Platinum, then expire.
- Run dry mid-month and top-up credit packs sit on top of the subscription price.
So the subscription price is only half the sum. The other half is how many of the leads you accept turn into paid work, and that's the half the reviews below argue about.
The contract terms to read before you sign
None of these clauses is unusual for a subscription platform. They only hurt when the maths stops working mid-term, which is exactly when people want out. Know the renewal date going in.
What do hipages reviews actually say?
3.7/5
across 9,372 reviews on ProductReview.com.au, 77% positive and 23% negative (retrieved 20 July 2026)
Trustpilot lands in the same band: 3.6 out of 5 from 1,404 reviews (observed 20 July 2026). One thing to know before reading either listing: both mix homeowners and tradies, and the two groups are reviewing different products. Homeowners rate how fast quotes arrive. Tradies rate what the leads were worth.
What the praise clusters on
- Quotes arrive fast, often within the hour, which is the whole pitch for homeowners
- An easy way to find someone for small or one-off jobs without ringing around
- Tradies who treat it as one channel among several report steady, usable work
What the complaints cluster on
- Paying credits for leads that go quiet, price-shop, or were never serious
- Being held to the term after the work dried up, with fees still falling due
- Sharing each lead with up to two competitors and losing on price
It matches what tradies say in the Facebook groups: real work does come through, and so do the lowballs and the price-shoppers. Why an open marketplace skews that way, and what the shared-lead maths looks like next to owning your own channel, is unpacked in hipages leads vs your own website.
So, is hipages worth it?
It depends where the business is at. Three honest calls:
-
Quiet calendar, new business
Worth it. Quoting activity within days is exactly what it sells, and nothing else gets you there as fast. Go in knowing the contract terms, and treat it as a bridge.
-
Booked solid, after better jobs
Probably not as your main channel. You're paying to compete on price for shared leads while your own name could be winning unshared work.
-
Somewhere in between
Run both. Keep the credits working while a website and Google presence build up over a few months, then taper the platform spend as your own enquiries take over.
If you're costing the owned side of that decision, the sourced market ranges are in the tradie website cost guide.
Is hipages or Airtasker better?
They charge in opposite directions. hipages sells subscriptions, $139 to $649 a month plus GST spent as credits on leads, while Airtasker takes 12.5% to 20% of each task you complete plus GST, with no subscription and no contract (Airtasker's published tiers, July 2026). Which model wins depends on the work you're after:
- Task-sized work
- Airtasker. A quiet week costs nothing because there is no subscription, and small one-off jobs are where its demand sits. You give up 12.5% to 20% plus GST, but only on tasks you win (Airtasker published tiers, July 2026).
- Steady trade leads
- hipages. Posted jobs in your trade category and postcodes are the whole product, and volume is what the subscription buys. That pipeline is the reason tradies wear the contract terms.
- Allergic to lock-in
- Airtasker by default: no subscription and no contract at all (Airtasker published tiers, July 2026). hipages starts on a six-month term that auto-renews for twelve, with fees still falling due if you leave mid-term.
- On the scores
- Nearly a draw. hipages holds 3.7 from 9,372 reviews on ProductReview.com.au; Airtasker holds 3.9 from 11,161 (both July 2026). The tradie complaints rhyme too: fee load, and what the lead or task was really worth.
It used to be a three-way question. Oneflare, the other name tradies still ask about, was retired into Airtasker on 30 June 2026, so the field is down to these two, plus the channel neither of them sells: your own name ranking for your services and suburbs.
The full tradie-side numbers on the other platform, its tier fees, escrow, insurance exclusions and review themes, are in the Airtasker review. The maths of backing your own website instead of either is in hipages leads vs your own website.
Why did The Block ban hipages?
A real story, and a strange one. hipages was a long-running sponsor of The Block: the trade press covered its fifth-year renewal in 2023 (B&T, August 2023). Then the show dropped it, and by 2025 a petition to reinstate it was counting six seasons of sponsorship.
6 seasons
of The Block sponsorship before the show dropped hipages, as counted by the petition to reinstate it (Change.org, July 2025)
That petition, "Lift the Ban on hipages for The Block Contestants", went up on Change.org in July 2025. In its own words, the platform was cut because it made sourcing tradies "too easy" for contestants. Take it as the petitioners frame it: no producer's statement on the ban has been published, so that is the only reason on the record.
Make of it what you will. Banned for working too well is close to the best free press a lead platform can get. It says nothing about whether the subscription stacks up for your business, but it does answer the question everyone Googles.
Where do we stand in this?
Worth factoring in: we build the alternative. Websites, SEO and Google presence that trade businesses own outright. That's a reason to check our working, so every figure on this page is sourced and dated, and none of it needs hipages to be a bad platform. It isn't. It's a marketplace doing what marketplaces do, and the only question that matters is whether that model fits where your business is at. If the sums push you towards running your own Google Ads instead, or you want to see where marketplaces sit among every channel, the digital marketing for tradies guide lays it out.

The questions tradies ask before signing up, or before leaving.
Is hipages legit?
Yes. It's an ASX-listed Australian company with around 33,000 tradie members and more than 100,000 jobs posted a month (hipages Group Quick Facts, July 2026). The real question isn't whether it's legit, it's whether the shared-lead model suits where your business is at right now.
How much does hipages cost per month?
Four plans: Starter $139, Advanced $249, Premium $449 and Platinum $649 a month plus GST, loading monthly credit allowances of 155 to 810 that you spend accepting leads (hipages pricing page, 20 July 2026). What a single lead costs in credits varies by trade, location and job size: one ProductReview member reports paying 42 to 75 credits a lead, which puts a Starter plan's 155 credits at roughly 2 to 3 leads a month before any top-ups.
Can you cancel hipages anytime?
Not usually without cost. Memberships start on a six-month introductory term and auto-renew for twelve months at a time, and the Business contract allows the remaining fees to fall due if you cancel mid-term. If you're winding down, diarise the renewal date and give notice before it ticks over.
Does hipages take a percentage?
No. hipages takes no percentage or commission of the job value, and your invoice never passes through it. You pay the other way round: a monthly subscription whose credits are spent when you accept a lead, win or lose. The percentage model belongs to Airtasker, which takes 12.5% to 20% of each completed task instead.
What do tradies complain about most in hipages reviews?
Two themes dominate the negative reviews on ProductReview.com.au: lead quality, meaning credits spent on leads that go quiet or were never serious, and contract terms when trying to leave. The positive reviews, mostly from homeowners, praise how fast quotes arrive. Same platform, two very different seats.
Which is better, hipages or Oneflare?
Neither is a live choice anymore. Oneflare was retired on 30 June 2026 (oneflare.com.au now redirects to Airtasker, checked 20 July 2026), and Airtasker had owned it since 2022. hipages is the one still operating, so the real comparison today is hipages vs Airtasker, covered above. What Oneflare charged while it ran, and what the shutdown meant for tradie profiles and reviews, is in our Oneflare review.
What is the alternative to hipages?
Owning your own channel: a website built to rank for your services and suburbs, a Google Business Profile collecting reviews, and ads when you want extra volume. Slower to start, but the leads are unshared and the asset is yours. We compare the two models properly in the hipages leads vs your own website guide on this website.
